Sunday Six: The New Twitter Profile

New Twitter Profile

The week was inundated by news of Twitter profiles getting a big update.

And the most talked about aspect was it’s similarity with Facebook profile. At first thought, you can hardly see a difference between the two.

Understandably, Twitter understood the importance of big images and so we now see a large cover picture that covers the entire screen just like Facebook in the Twitter Profile as well.

That means the new cover picture dimensions work out to 1500 x 500 px, but the small catch is, the visible part is at 1500 x 389 px. So ensure you have everything covered in that.

And the Twitter profile images also undergo a change. While they have moved from the centre to the left, the image size works out at 256 x 256 px.

Is that all??

No, according to the Twitter Blog there are much more enhancements on the way.

New Twitter Profile

1. Tweets in Bigger Fonts

Yes, bigger fonts, but not for all tweets. Going forward, popular tweets will appear in a bigger size making them stand out from the rest.

2. Pinned Tweets

A feature that would be liked by brands, going further, you will get the ability to have a tweet stay at the top of the stream.

3. Tweet Filter

You will be able to filter tweets if they contain photos or videos.

4. Tagging

Add to these, Twitter will now allow you to upload 2 images and also the ability to tag other users on the photo.

Mentioned below are few posts that have captured each of these updates and what it could mean for brands.

What do you think of the new Twitter Profile? Will it change the fortune of the company?

Personally, am not sure if this is going to help as many of us log in to Twitter using various client. Instead it would have made sense for Twitter to develop Tweetdeck or similar tools.

And for Twitter Chat addicts like me, we would also have loved to see some Twitter Chat specific tool.

What’s your say??
